  • BolognaFiere has recorded its best ever results
  • Revenues of 170.8 million euros: +35.5%
  • EBITDA of 36.5 million euros: +46.6%
  • Net profits of 10.9 million euros: +22.5%

Investment strategies in Italy and international expansion are the driving force behind the company’s dynamism

The development approaches pursued in recent years have led BolognaFiere to record the group’s best ever results, which have just been approved by the board of directors.

In detail the economic-financial results for the financial year 2018 saw consolidated revenues of 170.8 million euros, an increase of 35.5% compared with the 126 million euros in 2017, (+29% compared with the 132.4 million euros in 2016, the reference year with the same number of events due to their biennial frequency).

The significant growth in revenues in 2018 was generated thanks to the positive contribution of all of the companies in the Group for 15 million euros in addition to 30 million euros deriving from the acquisitions that last yearincluded the GiPlanet Group, the deal for which was concluded in March and the Health & Beauty Group, acquired in August 2018.

The proportion of revenues generated abroad in 2018 – an impressive 25% – confirmed BolognaFiere’s position as Italy’s leading Group for earnings on international markets. In total the Group counted 30 foreign events, including trade fairs in Russia, Asia, North America and Europe.

EBITDA for the year amounted to 36.5 million euros, an increase of 46.6% compared with the 24.9 million euros in 2017 (+72% compared with the 21.2 million euros in 2016), adding up to a noteworthy 21.3% of revenues.

Consolidated net profits passed the 10 million mark for the first time, reaching 10.9 million euros, an increase of around 22.5% compared with 2017 (more than double compared with 4.8 million in 2016).

The net financial position on 31 December 2018 stood at 39.3 million euros, 1.1 times the Group’s EBITDA.

“2018 was particularly significant because we concluded the financial year with the best ever results in the history of BolognaFiere with all of the indicators showing significant growth, confirming the positive trend of recent years that concluded an initial three year cycle  dedicated to the consolidation of the activities of the Bologna Exhibition centre and in the sector of cosmetics at a global level,” announced  Gianpiero Calzolari, President of BolognaFiere, who continued, “These results are testament to the validity of the Group’s strategic choices that enable us to plan for the coming  years a series of initiatives: on one hand, to accelerate the organic development of all of the companies in the Group, and on the other, the growth of external lines with further important acquisitions.

On the subject of this extraordinary 2018, on the industrial front, the drivers of development were, above all, the renewal and extension of all contracts with the fair events organised indirectly and the continued growth of the directly organised ones that enabled the company – and the city of Bologna – to continue to be at the heart of nationally and internationally recognised events. The local area can only benefit from the extension of the Bologna Exhibition Centre that involves investment of 138 million euros by 2024.

Also the international markets represented an important driver for the growth of the Group in the last year, in particular through Cosmoprof with which we have consolidated our presence in the Far East, and with the acquisition of Health & Beauty that has brought results in Europe, bringing the share of foreign revenues to reach 25% of our total earnings.

Finally, the more detailed organisation of the business has led to an improved equilibrium with an integrated offer that sees, with the acquisition of the GiPlanet Group, the sector for exhibition equipment and services contribute 20% of the Group’s consolidated revenues.

Thanks to the work that has taken place particularly in recent years, BolognaFiere is today a significant asset for the city of Bologna, a company with deep roots in the local territory, in which we continue to invest for the renewal of our infrastructure with three new pavilions, confirming the area’s importance in the Group’s development plans. BolognaFiere’s outstanding international predisposition is unique in the Italian trade fair sector.”
