Bologna – France: Liaisons amoureuses, lignes entrecroisées
An exhibition unveils the story of the extraordinary relationship between the Bologna book fair and French publishers

Launched with great energy and flair – and to great acclaim – at Frankfurt Book Fair in October, the Grand Tour, Bologna is now celebrating its past, present and future at Salon du livre et de la presse jeunesse de Montreuil, the last of the four international book fair venues on its Grand Tour. Drawing on Bologna Children’s Book Fair’s great strengths in the worlds of illustration and design, new trends in Children’s and Young Adult Publishing as well as showcasing the diverse programme for general publishing developed by BolognaBookPlus, the Grand Tour offers a broad, inclusive and accessible programme. The activities will whet the appetites of publishing professionals across the world in advance of welcoming them to Bologna from 21 – 24 March 2022.

The ‘Bologna Grand Tour’ is a project created in collaboration with ITA Italian Trade Agency and MAECI, the Italian Ministry for International Affairs and International Cooperation

Following the previous stops at the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Sharjah International Book Fair and the Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara, the Grand Tour will conclude at the Salon du livre et de la presse jeunesse de Montreuil, from 1 to 6 December 2021.

In Montreuil the Fair will have a 60 square metre stand (Niveau 1 stand D23), allowing it to showcase many of the developments BCBF has spearheaded over its recent past, including BolognaBookPlus, soft launched last June as a new offering for international general trade publishing. Located in the heart of BCBF, BolognaBookPlus comprises a variety of exhibiting options, alongside the return of its successful training and content programme.

Previewing the Fair, there will be a presentation of the 2022 editions of BCBF and BBPlus organized by BolognaFiere together with the Bureau International de l’Edition Française, which will be held today 29 November from 7 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. at the Italian Cultural Institute (Hôtel de Galliffet, 50 rue de Varenne – 75007 Paris) in the presence of Diego Marani, director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris, Nicolas Roche, general director of BIEF – Bureau International de l’Édition Française, Marco Momoli, Director of the BolognaFiere Culture BU, Elena Pasoli, director of Bologna Children’s Book Fair, and Jacks Thomas, guest director of BolognaBookPlus. The event will also host the presentation of the catalogue of the Bologna France. Liaisons amoureuses, lignes entrecroisées, the exhibition presented by BCBF at the Salon du livre et de la presse jeunesse de Montreuil. On this occasion, it will also be possible for the participants to visit the exhibition Italian Excellences. Illustrators for Gianni Rodari at the Italian Cultural Institute.

The BCBF Grand Tour at the Salon du livre et de la presse jeunesse de Montreuil will include the exhibitions:

Bologna – France: Liaisons amoureuses, lignes entrecroisées

The strong relationship between Bologna Children’s Book Fair and French publishing has been key to BCBF’s international growth. To celebrate this fruitful collaboration, BCBF has created an exhibition, part of a research project – curated by Coop. Giannino Stoppani/Accademia Drosselmeier and – on its history and development, unveiling the liaisons amoureuses that link Bologna and France. Starting from the first award-winning book in 1966 to the most successful French books of the last few years, including titles synonymous with significant moments and authors and illustrators whose art has impacted both countries, the BCBF stand will give a fascinating account of the books, publishers, authors, illustrators and art directors who have contributed to the Fair’s success. The project also includes a bilingual publication and guided tours by Accademia Drosselmeier (at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., advance booking required at the BCBF stand or on

Growing Young Readers – IBBY Italy 2021 Honour List

The main goal of IBBY International – the International Board on Books for Young people – is to promote and make accessible the best national and international literature for children. Each year, IBBY’s eighty plus national sections are called upon to nominate their country’s best authors and illustrators for the major international awards, together with a selection of the best publications for children, collected in their respective Honour Lists. This year, for the first time in Italy, the document has been made available to everyone with the publication of the Italian Honour List: edited by Ibby Italia – of which BolognaFiere is one of the founding members. The selection aims to offer an opportunity to discover the quality output of Italy’s excellent publishers and printers not only to members but, more generally, to all those – teachers, librarians, booksellers, parents and, last but not least, young readers – who want to find out about Italian publishing for children and young people. The IBBY Italia Honour List will be showcased to international publishers at the Salon du livre et de la presse jeunesse de Montreuil, in an exhibition at the BCBF stand displaying all 70 Honour List titles. Made up of top-quality narrative and illustration, the collection forms an ideal library of both recently published and well-established writers spanning a wide variety of narrative forms, including: picturebooks, short stories, novels, theatrical writing, poetry, non-fiction, and graphic novels. Guided tours to the exhibition with Paola Vassalli (member of the exhibition scientific committee and children’s literature expert) will be available on 4th December at 3 p.m., and on 5th and 6th December at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. (advance booking required at the BCBF stand or on
