THE FIRST EDITION OF FRANCHISING&RETAIL EXPO COMES TO AN END. An excellent start for the Franchising Fair organised by BolognaFiere and Assofranchising


The event F&re – Franchising&Retail Expo took place from the 28th - 30th April, the first edition of BolognaFiere’s Franchising and Retail Fair, organised together with Assofranchising, the Italian Association for Franchising and created for those taking their first steps in the world of franchising and for experts and professionals from a sector that can now finally enjoy a high quality event within the Italian context. The first edition was a notable success, as can be seen from the numerous positive comments made by exhibitors, thanks to the return to the fair of some of the leading brands from Italian and international Franchising and Retail along with the support of the prestigious sponsors and leading journals from the sector.

The figures for the event speak for themselves, demonstrating that initial expectations were exceeded.

•             More than 190 Exhibiting Brands took part in the fair, with a significant number of foreign brands. A variety of different goods categories: the most representative was that of food and catering with 12% of the brands belonging to this sector, followed by the clothing sector with 10% and that of travel and tourism with 7%. It was also interesting to see the return of the real estate sector with 6%, indicating a new climate of optimism and recovery for the sector of bricks and mortar. Among other sectors at the fair were those connected to products for wellbeing, health and personal care, which viewed together made up 10% of the brands. Finally specialized products and services, including training, technological innovation and entertainment;

•             2,591 accredited visitors, certified according to international Fair criteria, of whom 8% were from outside Italy: visitors were highly profiled thanks to a professional selection.

•             8000 m2 of exhibition space

•             Over 30 Confcommercio-Assofranchising Franchising Helpdesks available for visitors and free consultations and assistance, also after the conclusion of the event at helpdesks located across Italy.

•             More than 50 Events, Conferences, Workshops and company presentations took place during the three days of the event.

During the event the annual meeting of the World Franchise Council, the International Association that brings together all of the world’s national franchising associations, was held in Bologna, with 40 of the current 44 international delegations attending. The meeting included an analysis of the progress and tendencies of the franchising market. The gala evening saw Thun, RE/MAX, OVS, 100Montaditos and iReplace win the Asso del Franchising prize, the first ever edition of the prestigious award established by Assofranchising and promoted to consumers.

Attending the opening on Thursday 28th April were President of BolognaFiere, Franco Boni and the Head of the Internationalization Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nicola Lener, President of Assofranchising, Italo Bussoli and national Deputy President of Confcommercio, Donatella Prampolini. The opening conference was entitled “The contribution of network systems to the success of modern distribution” and speakers included Nicola Lener, Head of the Internationalization office of the foreign Ministry, Italo Bussoli, President of Assofranchising, Donatella Prampolini, Deputy President of Confcommercio-Imprese for Italy, Enrico Postacchini, President of ASCOM Bologna, Andrea Petronio, Partner of Bain&Company Italy, Alex Storey, Head of Franchise/Co-op, Channel Sales of Google in Europe, Middle East and Africa, Salma Al Mansouri of the Presidency of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, and Massimiliano Dona General Secretary of the National Union of Consumers. The event was moderated by Armando Garosci of Largo Consumo. During the conference eagerly awaited data from the Assofranchising Italia 2015 Report, compiled in collaboration with the OPF Permanent Observatory on Franchising of La Sapienza University of Rome, was presented.

There were also a number of collateral events organised on the occasion of Franchising&Retail Expo, these included a guided tour of the splendid Galleria della Meridiana in Palazzo Vassè Pietramellara, followed by a cocktail party hosted by Confcommercio ASCOM Bologna, in the exclusive rooms of the Palazzo which were opened to guests of the event.

These positive results, on one hand confirm that the first edition of F&RE has successfully met the requirements that led to the establishment of the event, and on the other hand, provide an excellent starting point from which BolognaFiere and Assofranchising have already begin to organize further developments for the second edition of the event in 2017.
